We’re excited to announce that our new Game of Thrones-inspired Royal Reserve Collection launches in 2018! The first of four beers in the collection is Hand of the Queen, a big, bold barleywine brewed for Tyrion Lannister. It will be available only in the United States beginning in April. A list of distribution states will be available in March of 2018 when the beer starts shipping to our wholesalers. Details about the collection and the first beer are below in the press release.

Brewery Ommegang and HBO announce launch of Game of Thrones®-inspired Royal Reserve Collection this spring

As Game of Thrones approaches its final season, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Global Licensing are excited to announce the launch of the Royal Reserve Collection, a collectible series of four special, limited release beers, each designed and brewed as an homage to one of four epic figures in the battle for the Seven Kingdoms. Packaged as a series, with simple, elegant iconography and sophisticated design representative of select Westerosi houses, each beer will be brewed and blended with ingredients selected to match the character and temperament of the chosen hero, designed and brewed as Brewery Ommegang’s interpretation of what a royal brewer might brew for his or her noble master.

The first beer in the series is Hand of the Queen, a beer brewed for Tyrion Lannister. As one who knows a great many things, Tyrion knows and loves wine above all else, so Hand of the Queen is a big, bold barleywine, a beer fit for those who seek knowledge and truth, both great and small. Available throughout Ommegang’s distribution network beginning in April, Hand of the Queen will be offered both on draft and in 750ml bottles. The suggested retail price for a bottle is $12.99.

“While technically not royalty at all, Tyrion certainly qualifies as a nobleman in our esteem,” says Doug Campbell, President of Brewery Ommegang. “We’ve wanted to brew for Tyrion for six seasons, and we believe his time has come. Knowing his preferences, our beer for Tyrion could only be a barleywine.”

“Ommegang’s collection of Game of Thrones beers has been an enduring hit with our fans, so we’re excited to offer them even more opportunities to pay tribute to their favorite characters next year by releasing four new and special releases,” says Jeff Peters, Vice President of Global Licensing at HBO. “And, of course, who better to receive our first tribute than Tyrion, the man who so famously drinks and knows things.”

Brewed with a complex blend of specialty malts and carefully-selected old-world hops, Hand of the Queen is a rich, full-bodied version of a classic barleywine and comes in at 10.7% ABV. Malt forward and multifaceted, the beer balances the intense flavors of brandy-soaked raisins and dark fruit with the lighter notes of apricot. Hints of molasses and toffee are evident before a finish characterized by the classic yet distinctive barleywine alcoholic heat. Hand of the Queen, an old-world example of the style, attempts to balance these strong yet unruly opposing forces, much like the way Tyrion maintains the balance of power among his influential contemporaries in Westeros.

The Royal Reserve Collection will feature four brand new beers in the brewery’s Game of Thrones-inspired series with HBO. All of the beers will be available on draft and in 750ml bottles and they’ll launch in April, July, October, and December for 2018. Details and images of future beers will be announced throughout the year.

Snommegang 2018

Our Snommegang Invitational Beer Festival is a celebration of the passionate pursuit of perfection shared by brewers across the country. To celebrate this noble endeavor, we proud to announce that in March 2018, we’ll host Snommegang in two locations: the inaugural Snommegang Lake Placid, and the fifth annual Snommegang Oneonta. For the Oneonta event, we’ll once again partner with America On Tap, the country’s leading producer of premium craft beer festivals, to expand this increasingly popular beer festival this winter in the City of the Hills.

Snommegang Lake Placid is Saturday, March 3 from 2-6 pm at the beautiful High Peaks Resort and will feature some of America’s best breweries, their medal-worthy beers, and hors d’oeuvre stations. Enjoying these delicious beers will be all the better thanks to the breathtaking back drop of Lake Placid, a truly dazzling winter landscape where visitors can experience a one-of-a-kind cross section of awesome beer, delicious food, and world-class alpine sport. Beyond the pour, visitors can enjoy Saturday late-night specials at area bars and Sunday hair-of-the-dog brunch specials around town.

Snommegang Oneonta is Saturday March 10 from 2-6 pm on historic Main Street in Oneonta, NY and will also feature around 30 breweries from across the United States. The beer tasting is accompanied by live music, food and activities – all within heated tents along Muller Plaza and surrounding businesses on Main Street. Music and activities in Muller Plaza are free and open to the public, and tickets are only required for the tasting portion of the event.

Both Snommegang events are for guests age 21+. Tickets for both locations are on sale now. Snommegang Lake Placid tickets are $50 each and available on TicketFly.com. Tickets for Snommegang Oneonta vary in price depending on group size and purchase date. Visit Snommegang.com for more details.

America On Tap Beer Festivals is the first and only national live event series dedicated to showcasing specialty and craft breweries from around the globe, while also delivering authentic, craft beer-focused experiences filled with live music, great vendors, and delicious local food. Ommegang is pleased to continue their partnership America On Tap in 2018.

“As a proud Upstate brewery, we take great delight in celebrating our long, snowy season, embracing the beauty of this winter wonderland,” says Doug Campbell, our brewery president. “To add such a storied location and a fantastic partner as Village of Lake Placid to the Snommegang schedule represents a great evolution of the very strong event we’ve already built with America On Tap in Oneonta.”

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Brewery Ommegang and couldn’t be happier to see the Snommegang Festival expand to an additional location” said Brittany Gilman, Marketing Manager, America on Tap. “The Snommegang festival experience and reputation will only strengthen now with two weekends of overflowing fun and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Winter is Here

Hi, friends!

Our latest Game of Thrones-inspired beer, Winter is Here, has worked its way from distributors to your favorite stores and bars. So have the 2+1 gift packs featuring Winter is Here and previously-released Fire and Blood Red Ale along with an Ommegang and Game of Thrones-branded glass. The beer and the gift packs are available nearly nationwide by now. Some locations received their beer sooner than others due to shipping times.

If you are in the Cooperstown area, you may now purchase Winter is Here, the gift packs, and a very limited amount of Fire and Blood Red Ale in single bottles at the brewery store. We had some Fire and Blood bottles that were not used in the gift packs but it is not enough for distribution so it will be sold on its own only at the brewery and only while the limited supply lasts. The Drogon label is the only label used for this release of Fire and Blood.

It is illegal for us to sell online or directly to customers who are not at the brewery, so we cannot take any online orders. We sell the beer from the brewery to distributors who then sell to retailers (bars, grocery stores and other locations). There are a few websites that are allowed to sell beer directly to fans and we will post those them here as they come in.

Ommegang is currently not distributed in Mississippi, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming so unfortunately Winter is Here and the gift packs will not be for sale in these states. Distributors in the following states have ordered this release: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, plus Washington, D.C., the U.S.V.I., and Puerto Rico. Outside of the United States, these beers may only be available in Ontario and Alberta, Canada. There is not currently a release date set for Canada. We’re working with our distributor there and we’ll update this post when/if we have one.

We have a beer finder that will show the locations that the beer has been sold to. The beer finder works by aggregating sales data from the distributor and it is uploaded often a few days after the sale into the account. With the great demand it might even be sold out by the time it is listed on our beer finder, so we strongly encourage you to call your local retailers to ask about availability before you drive around to find it. When you do find Winter is Here and the gift packs, you can tag a photo of the beer with #GoTxOmmegang on social media to let friends know where you found it.

Meet Smoked Porter

As cooler weather settles in on the northeast, we are pleased to introduce our latest limited edition brew: Ommegang Smoked Porter. This nod to a traditional English beer is brewed with subtle additions of smoked malt and a touch of Saaz hops to add additional depth and character to an otherwise traditional English brew. While the style is a departure from our traditional Belgian-style beers, the characteristic aromas of chocolate malt along with caramelized sugar are reminiscent of many things Belgian, and of all things good. Smoked Porter is available now in limited quantities in four-packs and on draft while supplies last. The brewery release is November 11.

Smoked Porter is brewed with a carefully crafted blend of Pilsner, Special B, Munich 20, Cara-20, Midnight Wheat, chocolate malt, and smoked malt. Balanced hopping is achieved with Saaz, while fermentation with American ale yeast ensures the malt remains in the spotlight.

This 7.6% ABV beer pours a deep dark brown – almost black – with a thick tan head. Aromas of cocoa, burnt sugar, and roasted malt give way to subtle hints of smoke. The flavor follows the aroma with rich notes of cocoa and roasted malt, followed by caramel sweetness and mild smoke. A medium-full body leads to a well-rounded finish with lingering smoke on the back-end.

Smoked Porter is a wonder accompaniment for a variety of foods. Pair smoke with smoke – and enjoy with smoked meats and cheeses. It’s also an ideal charcuterie beer, and a wonder pairing for rich confections like chocolate cheesecake.

Available now at retailers in these states: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, KY, MA, MD, ME, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TX, VA, VT, WV, plus Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I., our beer finder can help you search for Smoked Porter by zip code.

Firepit Fridays

Beer, music, bonfires, and food continue at the brewery this fall with our Firepit Friday music series. Local bands will play from 6-9 pm on these Firepit Friday evenings and the performances are free to the public.

The dates and local performers are October 27 with The Mopar Cams and Oarlock, November 3 with Bourbon & Branch, November 10 with Kennesaw Mountain Boys, and November 17 with Charlie & the Roomers.
