Mother of Dragons

Hi, friends.

The third beer in our Game of Thrones-inspired Royal Reserve Collection, Mother of Dragons, launches at the brewery and nationwide on Friday, September 28. Brewed and blended for a leader who takes what is hers with fire and blood, Mother of Dragons is a blend of a smoked porter and a Belgian kriek, representing the smoke and fire that Daenerys has unleashed on her opponents.

It is illegal for us to sell online or directly to customers who are not at the brewery, so we cannot take any online orders. We sell the beer from the brewery to distributors who then sell to retailers (bars, grocery stores and other locations). There are a few websites that are allowed to sell beer directly to fans and we will post those them here as they come in.

Ommegang is currently not distributed in Mississippi, Montana and Wyoming so unfortunately Mother of Dragons will not be for sale in these states. Distributors in the following states have ordered this release: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WV, Washington DC, and the U.S.V.I.

Outside of the United States, these beers may only be available in Ontario and Alberta, Canada. There is not currently a release date set for Canada. We’re working with our distributor there and we’ll update this post when/if we have one.

We have a beer finder that will show the locations that the beer has been sold to. The beer finder works by aggregating sales data from the distributor and it is uploaded often a few days after the sale into the account. With the great demand it might even be sold out by the time it is listed on our beer finder, so we strongly encourage you to call your local retailers to ask about availability before you drive around to find it. When you do find Mother of Dragons, you can tag a photo of the beer with #MotherOfDragonsBeer on social media to let friends know where you found it.

We can’t wait to hear that you think about our latest Game of Thrones-inspired release. Cheers!

Meet Stormcrusher, a collaboration with Brash Brewing Co.

Hi, friends.

It’s a collaborative end-of-summer for us and one of the beers we’re most excited about this fall is Stormcrusher, a beer brewed with our friends at Brash Brewing Co. in Houston, Texas. Stormcrusher is a big, bold Belgian-style quadrupel brewed for a cause: to benefit the City of Houston as it recovers from Hurricane Harvey. This Houston-only release is launching this week. Read on for more information:

Brash Brewing Company, Brewery Ommegang collaborate to help Houston

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) On the anniversary of the devastating arrival of Hurricane Harvey to the Texas coastline, the unlikely pair of Brash Brewing Company in Houston and Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY have teamed up to announce the release of a collaboration beer aimed at supporting rebuilding efforts. Stormcrusher, a Belgian-style quadrupel ale brewed with blueberry and coffee beans, is a bold new beer by two dissimilar breweries brought together for a common cause. For every four-pack sold, the breweries will donate $1 to the Southern Smoke Foundation , an organization dedicated to supporting those in the local food and beverage community who have been affected by the storm. The beer will be available only in the Houston-area beginning this week and will be presented at a series of launch events around the city as well through regular retail distribution.

”While Cooperstown may be a long way from Houston, we are familiar with the effects of major hurricanes and after Harvey left Houston, we picked up the phone to see if there was anything we could do to help, “says Doug Campbell, Brewery Ommegang’s president. “Brash answered, and while our breweries almost couldn’t be more different, we’ve really enjoyed working with them in their backyard.”

“We were flattered to work with a brewery that we’ve admired since getting into craft beer many years ago,” says Ben Fullelove of Brash. “Especially for a good cause.”

The 9.7% ABV quadrupel ale is brewed with pilsner, pale, aromatic, Munich-20, Xtra Special, and Cara-20, hopped with Styrian Golding and Spalter Select, and finished with blueberry puree and Ethiopian coffee beans from Avid Coffee, a local Houston coffee purveyor. It pours a deep burgundy with a rich tan head. Aromas of coffee burst from the glass followed by notes of blueberries and caramel. The flavor follows the aroma with the coffee up front and undertones of blueberry. A full mouth feel, and pleasantly sweet caramel malt profile is persistent throughout, resolving to a lingering sweetness.

This audacious beer pairs nicely with big, bold flavors such as smoked brisket, carnitas tacos, Texas chili, or cheesy grits. It’s also a perfect match for extra sharp cheeses like aged cheddar, or heavily salted cheeses like cotija.

Wednesday, 9/26   Spec’s on Smith: morning can release + Avid coffee & blueberry donuts

Tickets for the tasting event on Saturday, including a few camping tickets, are still available.
We look forward to seeing you at BCTC.

Meet Hopstate NY 2018

Hello, friends.

Hopstate is back with a brand new recipe for 2018. Brewed with 100% New York State grown hops, this juicy IPA launches on Thursday, July 26 at the brewery as well as in select retailers in New York. Additional states and retailers will receive the beer in August and September. Read on for more information about Hopstate IPA and where to find it.

Brewery Ommegang’s Hopstate IPA celebrates New York farmers

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) Brewery Ommegang is proud to once again shine the spotlight on New York State hop farmers with the release of Hopstate IPA, a classic India Pale Ale brewed exclusively with New York State hops. Hopstate IPA is part of the brewery’s Farmhouse Series, a line of beers that draws inspiration from the brewery’s home on the site of a historic 140-acre hop farm.

Ommegang has long supported the reinvigoration of the New York hop industry with annual releases that showcase its produce. The fourth such release, this year’s brew also includes two New York-grown barley varietals from 1886 Malt House in Fulton, NY.

Hopstate IPA is a 7.4% ABV, 40 IBU IPA hopped with Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, and Nugget. Brewed with flaked oats along with Synergy and Munich malts from 1886 Malt House, it is fermented with English ale yeast. Hopstate IPA pours a hazy pale orange with a fluffy white head. Juicy aromas of tropical fruit burst from the glass, followed by bright citrus and sweet malt. Flavors of sweet fruit and citrus mix with a pleasant bready character. Lightly balanced bitterness in every sip pairs with a smooth, pillowy mouthfeel and a medium body. The finish is moderately dry with mild, lingering bitterness.

Hopstate IPA pairs well with pub fare, grilled or smoked meat and fish, and moderately sharp cheese. It is also sensational with summer desserts such as tropical fruit sorbet and seasonal berry tart. Available at the brewery in Cooperstown beginning Thursday, July 26 in 16 oz. cans, Hopstate IPA will be distributed in NY, CT, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NH, PA, NC, SC, RI, VA, VT, WV, Washington, DC and the U.S.V.I. The suggested retail price for a four-pack is $12.99.
