Meet Pale Sour

Combined Pale SourThis weekend at the brewery we are welcoming a remarkable new year-round beer. Pale Sour is a 6.9% ABV mixed fermentation sour beer developed by our brewmaster Phil Leinhart, and the master blenders at our sister brewery, Liefmans, in Oudenaarde, Belgium.

From Phil: “Pale Sour is an elegant, drinkable sour beer, unique in that it’s not wood-aged. It has a well-balanced blend of sweet and sour. Liefmans is such a historic, iconic brewery and having the opportunity to work with them has been an honor and very enjoyable.”

Pale Sour begins with a mixed culture fermentation in open copper vats. Aged over several months in stainless tanks, master blenders blend new batches with older ones until the optimal balance of flavors is reached.

A beer that drinks much like a fine white wine, Pale Sour pours a bright golden hue with a brilliant white head. The flavor is an elegant interplay of sweet and sour and the mouthfeel is soft with a delicate body and clean finish.

Pale Sour’s balanced acidity is a perfect accompaniment to a charcuterie board and a tasty contrast to rich, fatty foods. Try pairing with duck, ribeye, blue cheese, and rich chocolate desserts. Pale Sour is best served in a Teku glass which will prevent the beer from warming in hands.

Available in 11.2 oz. four-packs and on draft at the brewery beginning this Saturday, April 29, Pale Sour will also be available in select retailers within the our distribution footprint. Currently the following states have ordered Pale Sour: AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, VA, plus Washington D.C. and U.S.V.I.

Meet Short Sleeve Saison

We are ready to welcome warmer weather with a brand new seasonal offering, Short Sleeve Saison. This refreshing 4.5% ABV, 35 IBU saison is the perfect accompaniment for celebrating the arrival of spring, and the fresh air adventures that come with it.

Short Sleeve Saison is one of our most easy drinking offerings to date,” says Justin Forsythe, our innovation manager. “The delicate yet complex balance between lightness, spice, and fruitiness is sure to please the palate and leave you desiring another sip. As the weather begins to warm again, we hope this beer is a go-to for refreshment, and something light enough to keep you anticipating the warmer months ahead.”

Short Sleeve Saison pours a pale straw-colored with a pure white head. The aroma is floral, with a touch of fruit, and has grassy undertones. The flavor opens with a bit of lemon tartness followed by mild wheat character, and the mouthfeel is delicate and quickly resolves in a crisp, clean finish.

Brewed with pilsner, wheat, acidulated malts, and flaked oats. Short Sleeve Saison is hopped with Southern Hemisphere Topaz and Motueka hop varieties, and spiced with grains of paradise, lemon peel, and coriander.

Pairing suggestions for this pleasantly crisp saison include delicate fresh flavors like poached salmon over a microgreen salad with strawberry vinaigrette, mild cheeses like queso blanco and fresh mozzarella, and light desserts like berry sorbet. Short Sleeve Saison will be available in 12 oz. six-packs and on draft at the brewery beginning Saturday, March 4, and in select Ommegang retailers in the following states beginning in late February and early March: AR, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, VT, plus Washington D.C., and P.R.

CAKE IG

As they approach their twentieth anniversary, CAKE’s lucid yet ever-inventive music has left them with no obvious peers. The band’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and was touted as “deadpan brilliance” by the New Yorker. In addition to writing, arranging, producing, and performing their own music, CAKE have taught themselves to engineer their recording projects in their own solar-powered studio. The band is currently in the recording studio working on their ninth album due for release in 2017. CAKE last played at Brewery Ommegang five years ago, in June 2012, during the brewery’s second annual summer concert series.

“We are excited to bring CAKE back to the brewery in May,” says DSP President Dan Smalls. “The band is unparalleled, a great start to Memorial Day Weekend in Cooperstown.”
